In view of the 2015 World AIDS Day commemoration, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) released current global HIV/AIDS figures.

A few key figures to note :
In 2014 –
- 36.9 million people were living with HIV
- around 2 million people were newly infected
- 1.2 million people died of AIDS related illnesses
As at June 2015, 15.8 million people are on ART globally

While the world maybe on track to ending AIDS by 2030 with the number of people on treatment, more needs to be done in getting people to know their status.
